Life Lately with Two Daughters

There’s are two storms brewing here in Connecticut… one literally right outside and the other is named Ailey.

For the last three weeks, Ailey has barely slept through the night. She has totally forgotten how to calm herself back to sleep once she gets up at 12, 2, and 4am. Mama is the only person she wants to see and that’s so she can nurse… which is unnecessary and not even worth it since my body hasn’t had to produce that much milk overnight in months. I had wanted to start to wean her but she is making it impossible, as if I don’t feed her, she screams so loud the people in the next town over can hear.

Thankfully Brandon is here now to help tame the wild beast. She is totally biting me in the picture above – a new trick she pulls when she is tired or hungry. I think part of her problems stem from communication issues. She wants to talk and tell us everything, but she can’t yet… so she screams, bites, or even tries to hit. I tell ya, she is so different from Annabelle.

Annabelle is loving preschool (which she finally started). She is learning how to write all the letters of the alphabet quickly. I worked with her over the summer tracing letters, but she would become frustrated with me. That isn’t the case at school!

Her imagination is one of her best qualities. Annabelle told me she wished she could figure out how to fly like a fairy because it would just make like more fun. She is obsessed with Tinkerbell and if she hadn’t been her for Halloween so many years ago, we’d probably do the costume again. She wants to be a witch this year…

Together, Ailey and Annabelle are quite the duo. They’re very busy girls, love each other so much, but haven’t quite figured out how to get along. Annabelle plays a little dirty – she hides her sister’s toys and bosses her around. Ailey retaliates by smacking her sister or pulling her hair. It’s crazy that Ailey behaves that way towards Annabelle because big sister has never laid a hand on her (nor have we). Are kids just born with this instinct to hit/slap/bite?

Parenting two little ones is tough work. I commend all those Moms and Dads out there – if you have just one or five, if you’re doing it alone or together, if you work full time or stay at home, you are NEVER alone. We are all in this together – surviving the bad days and celebrating the good days.
