Today I’m sharing part one of our lovely family vacation at the Nantucket Hotel and Resort following our trip from their sister resort, The Winnetu in Martha’s Vineyard.

The Nantucket Hotel & Resort - a family vacation destination in New England located minutes from downtown Nantucket.

Nantucket is a 19th century whaling island most known for its historic cobblestone streets and dune-backed beaches. My family and I are excited to share details from our visit to The Nantucket Hotel and Resort. We were invited to stay for two nights at the end of June! The Nantucket Hotel and Resort is a kid friendly place to stay if you’re looking for a New England family vacation.

How to Get to Nantucket

If we were traveling to Nantucket from home we would have hopped on the the Seastreak ferry, a luxurious smooth riding catamaran located in New Bedford, MA. Our family was traveling from Martha’s Vineyard, though, so we had to hop on a different ferry.

Hopping from one island to the next is very easy via the Hy-Line ferry. The incredible concierge at The Winnetu helped arrange the booking of our tickets and provided transportation to the ferry from the resort.

The general manager from The Nantucket, Jamie, picked us up as we walked off the ferry. He helped us with our bags and we loaded into an air conditioned SUV. Jamie was beyond kind, giving us a mini tour of the area surrounding our hotel on the way! I love hearing snippets of local history and learning where celebrities live on the island.

The Nantucket Hotel & Resort

The Nantucket Hotel & Resort was first built in 1891 and a recent renovation has the property looking brand new. The hotel is an easy drive from the ferry and located minutes from Nantucket’s charming downtown. The gorgeous establishment is the island’s only year-round hotel with all of the finest amenities – pool, restaurant, kids program, and a fitness and recreation club.

The Nantucket Hotel & Resort has taken many precautions to be Covid-19 compliant. There are many safeguards in place to make families feel comfortable and safe to enjoy the resort. The main lobby has plastic shields at the check-in desk. Guests can find hand sanitizer and complimentary face masks around the hotel too.

Staying at The Nantucket Hotel

The hotel features 44 rooms, suites, and cottages outfitted in coastal decor. On our family vacation to the Nantucket Hotel we stayed in the Quarterboard Suite, a spacious two bedroom two bathroom suite sleeping up to four adults and two children. The suite features a kitchenette, dining area, and a living area.

All guests can enjoy luxury robes, soft slippers, and coffee in their room each morning!

The bedrooms are bright and beautiful, featuring nautical touches like buoys and oars. Our daughers loved the Nantucket Hotel’s iconic steampunk whale found in every room (and bathroom).

Ailey enjoyed napping on the big bed in the girls’ room.

Each bathroom in this particular suite has a tub and shower. The dual features are a welcome amenity for families traveling with small children! The Nantucket Hotel & Resort stocks the bathrooms with one of our favorite brands: Davines Momo. A high quality soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner in the hotel room is always a welcome amenity!

Our suite was equipped with a kitchenette containing everything we needed for our stay. There is a refrigerator to store drinks/snacks, a microwave for leftovers, and a coffee station. The kitchenette contains impressive sanitizing supplies and individually wrapped paper towels, dish soap, etc.

This year, to reduce the number of staff going in and out of your room, the hotel offers every-other-day housekeeping service. Daily housekeeping, or no housekeeping at all is an option for all guests. The hotel uses electrostatic sprayers, to deliver an electric charge to a disinfectant to help it adhere to surfaces as they clean the property.

At The Nantucket Hotel and Resort, guests will find complimentary reusable water bottles in their rooms. There are complimentary pool/beach towels and even backpack beach chairs! The hotel is located a short distance from Steps Beach and Jetties Beach (which I’ll be sharing more about in Part Two).

Swimming at The Nantucket Family Pool

One of the amenities my family enjoyed most at The Nantucket is the gorgeous swimming pool. There are two heated outdoor pools for guests – the upper level pool is for children/families and the lower level is available for ages 14+.

Annabelle and Ailey splashed around the family pool all day! Brandon and I relaxed poolside feeling safe as our daughters played in their puddle jumpers or in the wading area. The Nantucket Hotel and Resort allows families to bring life jackets for little swimmers!

Annabelle learned how to jump off the side of the pool and swim to the stairs during our stay. We will always cherish this milestone!

Poolside Lunch from Breeze

The Breeze Restaurant services the pool area with seasonal poolside lunch, cocktail and drinks. One afternoon we enjoyed the most spectacular spread for lunch. We ordered the Breeze Signature Salad with Lobster, Caesar Salad with Salmon, Ahi Tuna Poke, and the children’s burger and chicken tenders. The food arrived fresh from the kitchen with disposable utensils and condiments. Every bite of each dish was delicious and the sea salt curly fries – they are out of this world!

The cocktails served at The Nantucket Hotel pool and our server Rick James must be celebrated. He mixes up the freshest mango mojito ever! Non-alcoholic drinks are available pool-side as well.

More about the pool…

Looking to fill your reusable Nantucket Hotel water bottle? There is a purified water filling area by the pool check-in counter. Guests can request towels upon entrance to the pool or exchange used towels for fresh towels.

In accordance with the hotel’s compliancy to Covid-19 regulations, the staff keeps the pool areas clean with frequent rounds to sanitize chairs and remove used towels. The seating areas can be configured to accommodate families and social distancing requests.

For a more private experience, families may rent a poolside cabana in the morning or afternoon. In the evening the cabanas turn into an area for poolside dining with Breeze Restaurant.
