Just when I thought Martha’s Vineyard was beautiful in the summer, my family visited Martha’s Vineyard in the fall. Here is a peek at our fall family vacation to the Winnetu Oceanside Resort on Martha’s Vineyard.

Getting to Martha’s Vineyard

It’s really easy to get to Martha’s Vineyard, especially when you take the Seastreak fast ferry. There is valet parking at the port and then a 45 minute ferry from New Bedford, MA to Martha’s Vineyard.

Bonus: The Winnetu picks up guests right at the ferry, so you don’t have to worry about transportation once you hit the island.

Visiting the Winnetu during the Fall

Our family stayed in a beautiful one bedroom suite with a large balcony overlooking the property. The West Chop one bedroom suite has a king size bed, kitchenette, 1 1/2 bathrooms, pull down twin bed, king sofa sleeper. We loved the convenience of being in the main building – close to the pool and restaurant!

Our daughters, ages 4 and 6, chose to sleep on the drop down bed under the television. They thought it was the coolest feature of their room at the Winnetu – aside from the balcony. From foggy mornings to afternoon sunlight, the balcony is a lovely place to relax.

What is there to do at the Winnetu during the fall?

After the summer crowds dissipate, the Winnetu stays opens until early November for fall loving guests. The weather is so beautiful in the autumn months, often warm enough during the day for the heated pool. Our daughters could live in the pool, so we spent a lot of time enjoying the Winnetu pool.

The Winnetu Pool is Heated, which is PERFECT for the Fall!

The Winnetu offers poolside cabana rentals as a secluded place to relax out of the sun. There are also chairs around the cabana for the sun lovers, but I enjoyed my time under the tent since my skin cancer scare.

Hungry? The Pool Grill serves up delicious food and fantastic drinks right to your beach chair. The kids menu is wonderful – especially the grilled cheese and cheeseburger. I had a Salmon Caesar Salad that was also scrumptious!

The Antique Fire Truck Ride is a MUST!

On our last trip to the Winnetu we missed out on riding the Antique Fire Truck. It’s one of their most popular activities! Thankfully we were able to jump on for a ride – and it was worth all the hype! I think guests of all ages will enjoy a ride around the island on the antique fire truck.

Lawn Games for ALL Ages

There are so many different activities on the lawn at the Winnetu. Our family loves playing corn hole and making use of the soccer net the best. I also love the big Adirondack chairs all over the property – perfect for lounging!

Over the summer we looked for turtles in the pond, but discovered they were gone for the season. Our girls enjoyed pretending to visit the giant lighthouse and exploring around the pond instead.

Dining at The Dunes

During the fall many restaurants in Edgartown close down until spring. Even though there were some wonderful places still open, our family chose to eat at The Dunes for breakfast and dinner. The Dunes Restaurant is consistently delicious with their seasonal menus and wonderful wine list.

Exploring the Katama Airfield

Looking for more fun while staying at the Winnetu during the fall? We ventured off the property a little bit to explore the Katama Airfield and Katama Point Preserve. The girls brought little sketch pads to draw the airplanes and any fun wildlife we may spot along the way.

There was a beautiful path between some homes behind the Winnetu which resembled something from “The Secret Garden.” My daughters explored the path for quite some time looking for something magical and drawing pictures.

Last must visit while staying at The Winnetu Oceanside: South Beach!

Thank you so much to the Winnetu Oceanside Resort for hosting our family over my birthday weekend. Martha’s Vineyard has become one of my most favorite places to visit in both summer and fall!
